We probably all have a few beauty tips that have been passed down by our mothers and grandmothers. The best bit about these old school beauty tips is they all contain natural ingredients so you can find most of it around the house.
Milk and Honey Bath
Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra, was famous for her beauty. Cleopatra went to great lengths to keep herself looking young and beautiful. One of her most famous beauty rituals was bathing in donkey milk. Donkey milk is still used today in some soaps and creams as it contains minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, and a bioactive enzyme that is very beneficial to skin.
You can make your own milk bath very easily. You will need a large jar, add 1-2 cups of whole milk and half a cup of honey, then shake well, then simply pour the mixture in to your bath. You could also add a few herbs and dried flowers, and maybe a few drops essential oils.
Olive Oil for Dry Skin
Olive oil is a superfood packed with nutrients and anti-oxidants. Because olive oil contains vitamin K, vitamin E and squalene, which mimics skins natural producing sebum, it is ideal for hydrating and moisturising dry flaky skin.
Many opt to consume olive oil orally to help with their skin, as applying olive oil directly to the skin can cause breakouts because the oil is dense and holds bacteria underneath the skin. Olive oil makes a wonderful addition to your manicure routine, just massage the oil into your nails to soften cuticles.
Vinegar Hair Rinse
Did you know that apple cider vinegar can eliminate dandruff? Healthline explains why, “For one, apple cider vinegar — beyond having some well-researched health properties — is an acidic substance. It contains good amounts of acetic acid.
Hair that looks dull, brittle, or frizzy tends to be more alkaline or higher on the pH scale. The idea is that an acid substance, like ACV, helps lower pH and brings hair health back into balance.”
To make an apple cider vinegar rinse for your hair simply mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar with water, then after shampooing and conditioning, pour the mixture over your hair and massage into your scalp. Leave for 2 minutes, then rinse out thoroughly.
Coconut oil has always been known as a miracle health and beauty product. It is 100% natural, chemical-free and contains healthy fatty acids that can help you lose weight and can also link to fertility.
Using coconut oil on your skin and hair will leave it feeling silky and smooth. Coconut has a hydrating and cooling effect on the skin, making it ideal if you suffer from red and inflamed skin.
Make your own cooling coconut lotion at home. All you will need is half a cup of organic coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, and 12 drops of your favourite essential oil. Just whip the coconut oil with an electric hand mixer for around 8 minutes until fluffy. Then, add a few drops of essential oil and aloe vera and mix well. Apply to your skin liberally.
