7 Steps to Skin Detoxing for Clear and Glowing Skin

7 Steps to Skin Detoxing for Clear and Glowing Skin

Hearing the terms “Digital Detox”, “Liver Detox”, “Detox diet”, “Home Detox” and other similar phrases has become a familiar occurrence over the past few years.

Detoxing our bodies and decluttering our homes have been the trendiest movements over the last few years. And you may have tried a few of these detoxes.

But what about a detox for the largest organ of your body – Your Skin?

Our skin can sometimes be dry and dull and other times congested and breaking out. And we all know what causes this:

  • sleeping with makeup,
  • indulging in unhealthy food,
  • neglecting our skin after beach days,
  • drinking too much of alcohol,
  • not drinking enough water,
  • environmental pollution,
  • or a bit of all the above.

Also, if any other part of your body is not functioning well, from your gut (too much junk food) and lungs (cigarette smoking) to your brain (too much stress) – signs can show up on your skin, especially the skin of the face.

This happens because the skin is an organ of excretion. It helps the body get rid or toxins and excess waste products.

A skin detox means removing all impurities, toxins, pollutants, and dead skin cells.

This helps renew and revive your skin back to normal — or maybe even better than normal.

Here are 7 tips to detoxing your skin, especially the skin on your face:

1. Cleanse Twice A Day with the Correct Cleanser

Cleansing should be a daily habit. However for skin detox your do need to cleanse morning and evening. Choose a cleanser suitable for your skin type. If you have drier skin, a creamy cleanser like the Buttermilk Cleanser should be used and if you have oilier, more congested, acne-prone skin, a water based gel like the Active Face Cleanse Gel should be used. However, for those with normal skin or due to weather changes – you may need to swap between these two cleansers. Buttermilk Cleanser may be used in the winter and Active Face Cleanse Gel may be needed in summer or when on a beach holiday.

2. Detox Mask is Your Best Friend

Masks containing Dead Sea Mud and Dead Sea Salt, like the Detox Face Mask, draw out the impurities form the pores as well as the top layers of the skin. This is possibly the fastest and most effective way to detox the skin. Use the Detox Mask weekly or twice weekly if skin is congested.

The Detox Face Mask contains not only Dead Sea Mud and Dead Sea Salt but also Fruit Enzymes and Neem to draw out impurities, reduce pollution and heal the skin.

3. Properly Hydrate and Protect Your Skin

Moisturise your skin daily. You need to moisturise in the morning only. However if  your skin is dry then moisturise at night as well. The Active Face Hydrating Gel is a water based moisturiser, that balances oil production while healing and protecting the skin. The Rejuvenating Face Cream is a more hydrating oil gel that nourishes the skin while infusing it with moisture and essential amino acids. Both our moisturisers are designed to melt into the skin – so the ingredients can get to the layers where they work. Sometimes, depending on the environmental conditions and your skins needs, you may have to layer the moisturiser. The means that you apply a layer of your moisturiser and watch it disappear, then apply a second layer and if this disappears as well, you should apply a third layer. Ideally do not use products that leave a thick layer of oil on the surface of the skin as it congests pores and prevents skin from breathing.

4. Drink Lots of Water

The NHS in the UK and American Institute of Health recommend drinking between 6-8 glasses of water a day or the equivalent of 1.2 to 1.9 litres a day. While this is the daily recommendation to eliminate toxins from your body and stay hydrated, many don’t drink this much. Also coffee, sugary juices, and alcohol dehydrates you, so cannot be counted as hydrating drinks. If you have these, you may need to drink more water to compensate for them. Most detox diets suggest avoiding these drinks. For your skin to be cleaned from the inside out, swap your morning coffee for hydrating and detoxing green tea.

5. Skin Detox Diet

For a skin detox, you have to be careful about what you eat. For total skin rejuvenation, it’s important to adapt your diet to your skins needs.

Do Not Eat the following foods as they are pore-clogging and skin dulling.
  1. Dairy products,
  2. Foods with added sugar.
  3. Fried foods.
Eat the following to Detox your Skin
  1. Alkaline-rich fruits and veggies like pears, broccoli, kale, watermelon, and bananas.
  2. Alkaline minerals (like calcium, magnesium, and potassium) keep skin strong (and hair, bones, and teeth, just for added bonus points).
  3. Avocado and Walnuts are healthy fats that enable you to glow from the inside out.

6. Steam Your Face

If your skin is feeling congested it is good to use a steam room or do facial steaming. If you don’t have a steam shower, it’s simple, easy, and totally free to make your own. Bring a pot of water to boil, then transfer the water to a bowl. Hover your face above the bowl and drape a towel over your head to concentrate the steam to your facial pores for about five minutes.

7. Have A Facial

A good facial can clean out your pores. You may do a Home Facial using Active Face Cleanse Gel, Detox Mask, Active Face Hydrating Gel. We have a set of Skin Detox Products discounted to £90 (Value £130) so you may detox your skin at home.

However a professional aesthetician can not only deep clean but give your skin the treatment it needs to glow. Organic Apoteke offers facials with trained professionally qualified therapists. Further more products used in facial treatments are of professional quality - hence they contain more active ingredients. These products are more effective and unsuitable for home use.
